Objectives

The BTT 4 Modules Package is a combined training program that includes four GWO Basic Technical Training modules: Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Bolt Tightening. The aim of this package is to provide participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to perform basic technical tasks on wind turbines. Training follows the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standard and prepares participants to work safely and effectively under supervision, using correct procedures, tools and PPE.

Target Audience

This package is intended for individuals with no previous experience in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems or energy powered bolt tightening, as well as those wishing to upskill and apply their knowledge specifically in the wind energy sector.

Prerequisites

All participants who attend a GWO Training course must create a profile in WINDA in order to get a WINDA ID which they must supply to the Training Provider prior to completing the training. https://winda.globalwindsafety.org

All personnel participating in this training shall be medically fit and capable of fully participating.
Participants’ signatures testifying to their medical fitness will be collected prior to the start of the module.

Module Content

This collection of four modules includes:

  1. General introduction

    • Overview of GWO Basic Technical Training

    • Safety principles and use of PPE

    • Work procedures and teamwork requirements

  2. BTT Mechanical Module

    • Mechanical introduction and safety

    • Principles of bolted and welded connections

    • Use of handheld tools

    • Gearbox, braking, yaw and cooling systems

    • Lubrication systems

  3. BTT Electrical Module

    • Introduction to electricity

    • Electrical safety procedures

    • Electrical components and sensors

    • Circuits and measuring instruments

  4. BTT Hydraulic Module

    • Hydraulic introduction and safety

    • Pumps, actuators, valves and accumulators

    • Sensors, pipes, hoses, connections

    • Oil and filters, hydraulic diagrams

    • Pressure measuring tools

  5. BTT Bolt Tightening Module

    • Bolt tightening in the wind industry

    • Bolt torquing and tensioning using powered tools

    • Use of mechanical handling aids

  6. Final assessment and certification

    • Review of all modules

    • Practical and theoretical evaluation

    • Certification in WINDA database
