IRATA Level 2 — Lead Rope Access Technician
IRATA Level 2 is the intermediate qualification within the IRATA framework. It certifies that a technician can competently perform advanced rope access tasks, handle complex rigging systems, and take an active role in rescue procedures.
- Intermediate-level certification for technicians progressing from Level 1.
- Requires a valid IRATA Level 1 certificate plus 12 months of experience and 1,000 logged hours.
- Training delivered in accordance with IRATA TACS and IRATA ICOP.
- Total course duration: 5–6 days including independent assessment.

Target Audience

Prerequisites

- Competence in all practical and theoretical requirements of Level 1.
Course Content
- Expanded roles and responsibilities of a Level 2 technician per IRATA ICOP.
- Enhanced rope techniques and efficient changeovers.
- Advanced rigging including load-sharing anchors, hauling and lowering systems, and retrievable rigging.
- Work positioning and material handling at height.
- Advanced rescue procedures including controlled hauling and aid-climbing rescue.
- Risk assessment, equipment standards, and inspection intervals.
- Theory covering ICOP, legislation, and advanced rescue principles.
Course Duration & Assessment
- Training: 4–5 days (minimum 30 hours).
- Assessment: 1 day with an independent IRATA International Assessor.
- Total duration: 5–6 days.
- Re-sit allowed within 60 days if the assessment is failed.
Certification
- Certificate validity: 3 years from the date of assessment.
- Revalidation must be completed before expiry.
- Progression to Level 3 after 12 months and 1,000 logged hours at Level 2.
